Do you remember
Back when there were children,
Back when the sky wasn’t yellow and black with gray sunsets,
Back when you could plant seeds in the ground
and they would sprout into flowers and vegetables,
Back when you could go swimming
In the lake
And you could go outside
Without a mask,
And you could look up to the blue sky
With its pink and orange sunsets
And not see birds falling
And dropping at your feet?
Do you remember?
Now I see men jumping from
The old buildings
Because they can’t hang on anymore.
The ones that stay get tumors and tears
For their trouble.
Dry dirt
And
Dead bones.
Even the golden calf is gone.
