Hyperbolic Times | Benjamin Nardolilli - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Hyperbolic Times | Benjamin Nardolilli

These are hyperbolic times,
All the old descriptions are broken
Or they are inadequate for today,
As if we have outgrown the very words,
Like scandal or setback,
No one knows what will happen next
Because these waters
Are unexplored and unsourced,
They may be rivers, seas, lakes , or pools,
Involving waves in the distance
Or hills ready to come crashing down,
No one knows how things will stop either
Or the time necessary,
Events used to take their time to bleed
All the way to the front pages, now
We go from skirmish to war in days
And leak to resignation in hours.

Debates | Daipayan Nair - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Debates | Daipayan Nair

They are accusing friends
of not being loyal
and they are getting
terribly infuriated at each other,
frothing at
one’s friendly blood
in an unfriendly debate
where each friend is a dictator
in the midst of four to five enemies,
thinking, letting
similar blood drops meet
would be even more friendly
only to forget later,
the reason, raising cups,
smiling at their brothers
without the previous grin,
forgetting themselves for a reason
realising, their true self
is too much to take
even for themselves
and that, now they are
discussing
true politics.

Levels | Krushna Chandra Mishra - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Levels | Krushna Chandra Mishra

When for no reason
You ask for explanations
You are very sure
There are no conclusions
You would ever find acceptable
And thus going beyond
By a level higher
Let me be determined
To give you situations
And evidence
To tell you
Everything matters
Anything to your satisfaction
You may take
To put down a verdict
At a stage higher
I can contest
To offset your blind views
To let you at least
Now onwards open up your
Eyes to reality
To accept level to level
Knowledge changes
Reality explains and asks for more
Than how much in your limitations
You hold to be ultimate and inviolable
And to accept
You are not beyond
But bound to levels
And answers are there
Explanations are there
To let others see
Where you kept your eyes closed
Dozing off amidst words
And facts and positions
And dispositions and expositions
To err into light
Where your dark designs
And devilish visage
Would announce itself
And the world in derision
Shall dismiss you
From the levels
That you may look up to
As being genuinely and divinely human.

Conjoined Twins | Langley Shazor

I look at you with disgust
Because of what you have
You look at me with disdain
Because of what I lack
In this battle for supremacy
A paradoxical war of attrition
Bystanders see us as equal
Our actions garner mutual attention
We cannot be distinguished
Such reflections of each other
Might as well be joined at the hip
In this sack race of entitlement
We stumble over one another
Both looking like fools
And yet
We swear we are different
I guess it does take one to know one
