Your Light | Lynn Long - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Your Light | Lynn Long

You…
Are a star shining bright
I am earth, forever bound
to gaze upon your light

And I have seen your soul
In all my dreams
Pure as the snow
on moonlit beams

And I have loved you…
All of time
Knowing always,
you were never mine…

For I am the wind,
the rain and ocean tides
And you- you are the
golden dawn of sunrise

Still, I whisper
your name into the night
and make a wish for you,
my star, my light

Broke His Crown | Scott Thomas Outlar - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Broke His Crown | Scott Thomas Outlar

Hey, Mister Mason
what’s that you’re building?
Do you think that it’s sturdy
and not destined to fall?

Finger to your lips
shh, it’s a secret
Once out in the open
the truth will be revealed

Black and white pieces
hold your positions
Checker the floorboard
as we settle all scores

Oaths that were taken
were given in shadow
Now run to your corners
the Light has come on

Hey, there, King-Maker
your puppets are tattered
Hey, Wizard of Darkness
your reign is dismissed

Dawn of the New Day
ain’t what you thought, eh?
The Phoenix is rising
as we leave you below

Language & Thought | JD DeHart - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Language & Thought | JD DeHart

Dr. Samuel Johnson once said,
Language is the dress
of thought.
I wonder what would
happen if our innermost
thoughts were to dress
us, how many of us would
be dressed in rabble, rags,
and how many of us would
be as fine-pressed as we
would like to be. Would
those who do not think much be arrested, indecent?
What if our words and slurs
decorated us outwardly?
Would minds and mouths
adorn us regally or reveal
wounds and unraveling?

You Hung the Moon | Mary Bone - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

You Hung the Moon | Mary Bone

I sat alone in the dark,
drinking coffee,
nursing old wounds and new.
I thought of the way things used to be-
when I had you.
When I had you, the sun shone brightly,
my head was in a swoon,
when I held you tightly.
We sang the same tune,
and I thought you’d hung the moon.
Now I’m alone in the dark,
as I sit and croon.
I used to be happy as a lark
But, I still think you
hung the moon.

My Broken Heart | Terri Emmet - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

My Broken Heart | Terri Emmet

my broken heart
lays on the ground
lonely without you
not knowing what to do
empty of hope- life- love
everything worthwhile
i look through pictures of
when we were together
all the good times
all the love
everything that was me and you
that had any meaning
i miss you
i love you
i guess i’ll have to get over you
not my first choice
but the only one i’m left with
