Addict's Oath | G. Louis Heath

I inhale, I snort, I swallow all substances
Legal and illegal that liberate me from my
Paradoxes. I sniff chemicals to close the
Space between what I wanted to be and the
What-I-am. I surrendered in self-loathing to
The what-I-am. I must acknowledge this
White flag and raise a red one. Red marks
The path to recovery. My feet must find that
Path and walk it with all the help I can muster.

Not Alone | Jenny Dowling

Look up at the lightning in the sky.
Left there, no one seems to wonder why. Those scars run deep, now I sink. Bottle in my hand I see you weep. Now it’s all over, I just can’t get sober. Behind these bars faced with darkness. She watches on as tears stain her face. That beauty that once held so much joy, is a toy broken now but not destroyed.

I travel, not alone.

Not alone, she travelled.
