Questions of Our Time – A Poem by G. S. Katz

As people we are comfortable with the
mayhem of war
But uncomfortable with sex, if not for procreation
Double standards abound to fit your alleged
religious, political or moral foundations

Sounds dubious to me
But I’m one of the hated
No religion, no political affiliation
Lover of sensual ways and attitudes

The world is a mess
Always will be
Won’t you lie down with me with desire
in your eyes
Hopefully for pleasure, not to make a new army
of haters…

My Guests - A Poem by P.K. Deb - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

My Guests – A Poem by P.K. Deb

My guests are ever-solicited
yet they cross me flying over raising hands
or running by me,
so selective they are, it seems,
Nevertheless, my thirsty eyes get quenched up,
as my guests are witnessed
entering my poor parlor
walking on the way of my blood and sweat.
They steer the magical rods,
make my dry lips fertile,
my heart brimful in luxurious emotion
to blast a musical laughter
and my feet hilarious in joy
to show their spontaneous dancing steps
for a blissful while- consisting of
a few tumultuous moments of amusement.
Alas! As time passes, moment by moment
so the guests start disappearing one by one
in the bottomless holes of my booster-
boosting my unaccounted
smile, laughter and dancing up.
The wheel of life moves another round,
makes my eyes thirsty and watchful
for gaining the presence of the guests again
and hopeful too plan wise to sustain
their existence for a long time and term.
Experienced heart admits the importance of
a rationing system of amusement-
well featured by a new booster with a regulator.

The Ingratiating Pain - A Poem by Ananya Dhawan - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

The Ingratiating Pain – A Poem by Ananya Dhawan

In the midst of the storm
he stopped,
paused,
wondered,
drank in realizations
wept,
then strode on.

The whirlwind
jarred his senses,
tore his soul
hammered his mind,
gnawed at his thoughts.
His mind froze,
his form quivered
he shrunk and shivered
with the ingratiating pain.

It won him over
He caught the plague
that palled him
and suffering that he was,
he succumbed to the distress.

Though his thoughts awakened
his chaotic self
refused to budge
pulling him back
bit by bit
wanting to swallow him
to drown him
into the fog,
into the fire,
into the pool of blunt ichor.

The Bread Also Rises - A Poem by Richard William Kirkpatrick-Thorne - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

The Bread Also Rises – A Poem by Richard William Kirkpatrick-Thorne

The D.J. On The Radio Is Chatter From A Marionette’s KnotHole
With The Chronologic Of Sweetened Tea And A Wallet’s Leathery
Despair,
A Glass Cougar In A Tree With The Signals Bristleing His Whiskers,
One Slip Of The Tongue Could Dissolve The Articulated Illusion,
His Broadcast Of PreOrdinance And Its SoundTrack To Better Living
Through A Guarded Royal Arch Leading To His BackYard Dynasty,
To Roosts Where His Dogs Sit To Keep The Grass From Getting
Sun-Burnt,
His Sonic Stutter To Shelter The HomeLess Muse For Her Green Men,
A Performance In Monotone With Slight Accentuation On Trigger Words
Produceing Egg-Layers To Twitch Their Heads While He Roams Freely On
The Wire…

Seeking Landing Strips In The Vista Of AirWaves And Condensation…

He Comes As The Spirit Of Sunday,
Cooling The Feral Brows Of Morning Sickness,
Easeing The Suffering Of Alcoholic Coal-Miners With His Waters,
He Has Risen From The Bread To Guide The Lost InTo Fields Of Heather,
Violet Vibrations From A Swaying-Bridgeing Trust Over The Friday
BeFore,
To A Saturday Of His Hand Tilting The Creamer InTo Cups In Saucers,
With Button Eyes And Stuffing For Friends Gathered Near,
Easter… After Easter… After Yesterday Has Been Slowed Down,
His Muttered Addition In ReVerb To Be As God To Lactation And
Imagination,
Just To Keep Peckers Loyal To His Tree.

The Fetters - A Poem by Naduni - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

The Fetters – A Poem by Naduni

There was a woman
A lady
Young and delicate
Like the evening breeze
Her hair gently swayed
Keeping with her gait
She emanated
Chanel No 5
The Prada clutch bag
Ruby and elegant
Cuddled against
Her slender palm
She was unmarried
She said she couldn’t get married
Her class and caste
Are like fetters that confine her
She answered
When I asked about her marriage
What class? You are so classy!
I gasped.
She gently smiled and said
You can climb the social ladder and
Become classy, educated and elegant
But you can’t change your lineage
When it comes to marriage
They considered crucial
Where is equality
I wondered
Such a lady can’t marry
Because of a class she has long left and
A caste whose name she cannot remember

End of Ends - A Poem by Dus Noisy - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

End of Ends – A Poem by Dus Noisy

One comes in,
Another dissipates to,
Merely memory,
Life loves to give and,
To take.
You’ll never know,
What whirling winds,
Carry.
And not one of us can,
Try to tell,
What’s dead ahead of us.
So just stick things out,
With me,
Just a little longer,
An appreciation of presence.
Under time’s tyranny,
Begot an “end”.
We long a life of,
Timeless treasures.
It all comes to an “end”.

The So-Called Aristocratic-Marxist Lady - A Poem by Naduni - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

The So-Called Aristocratic-Marxist Lady – A Poem by Naduni

You, the seemingly white dove
Who advocates egalitarianism
Who calls us ‘friends’
Are a capitalist to the core.
The deepest irony is embedded in the
Faux gold and pearls
On the fingers
That crave for women and ears
Deaf to the hushed murmurs of
The poor, the average, the rural and the ignorant
Spending a whole life on converting
Nonsmoking women
To smokers and heterosexual women
To homosexuals
Ruining married lives under the veil of
Empowerment
You laugh from you throne
Which to the infiltrator is a
Mere wooden chair
Gilt to deceive the gullible
The uneducated, the rural and
The innocent.
The luxury vehicles are appropriated
From others’ permits
Which you never deserved
The driver holds the door open for you
Who is obviously humiliated under my gaze
He doesn’t know I am from the same village
You drag your feeble feet
Too old to stand straight
After a lifetime of self-deceit
Deceit, falsity and a continuous struggle to
Become an elitist
The sign value and the exchange value of your
Ornaments
Beckon me to uncover a secret.
I know their secret
They merely laugh at your foolishness
‘Conspicuous consumption’
In other words.
Where will you end
Even you are unaware
This poem comes to an abrupt end
Symbolic of your own end
