A Definition of Wan-Hua Street | Zihong Chen - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

A Definition of Wan-Hua Street | Zihong Chen

The name of Wan-hua Street is the signifier or signified, I hesitate,
what attracts me is not interpretation, but the changing poetic sentiment.

Which exact meaning can be located for the Hua, a Chinese character?
paces of one or two people, or a belle and furbelows of her?

If we use adjectives like extravagant, prodigal, moneyed, splendid,
the street history will gladly accept them, pretend to refuse in a second.

The previous recycling facilities were already written in implicit lists,
Fragrant Flowers Courtyard, as always, responds to salvos of flowers.

Time crosses the sidewalk, changes the scenes once a decade, once a year,
Colorful glorious flowers, flourishing, coloring, blossoming and waning.

Feelings for Wan-hua Street is the most regular yearning this moment,
The Street is coloring a kaleidoscope, spring-colored, enticingly fragrant?

Alert | Stan Morrison - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Alert | Stan Morrison

while you were napping
other stuff was happening
your dog rover took your trike
went for a spin on the turnpike
when you were upstairs and resting
you missed more that was interesting
your new teacher visited your mother
talked about this, that and the other
a rocket ship landed on the lawn
but you were tired, started to yawn
so many more important things go on
the very serious and the putting-you-on
just stay alert as long as you’re able
don’t fall asleep at the breakfast table

Paucity of Love | Ananya S. Guha - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Paucity of Love | Ananya S. Guha

In huts boiled rice
a family sits
with expectation
especially the children
tearing scraps of paper
biting, eating
and a country moves on
with railway tracks
and trains entering
passengers witness
to seething darkness
it does not matter
what you eat
it matters why you eat
as economists and sociologists define the poverty of experience
inexperience
paucity of love.
