Acception | Savannah Henderson - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Acception | Savannah Henderson

We accept the love we think we deserve, but why do we only accept that which hurts?
Is it because we think that they should love us, as much as we love
ourselves?
They can try to show us that we deserve so much more, but inside we will always believe that something this good can only be untrue.
Is it a hoax? What are you going to do?
This just doesn’t feel right, we’re through.
Now tell me, do you turn back to his screaming, because you think
that’s what you deserve?
Or is it because you think he knows you better then anyone else? Do
you turn back to him because it’s odd without his presence near?
Dry your tears, you are much more than what you’re crediting yourself for, nothing is never too good to be true.
It just depends on you.

Returning from Leave | Donal Mahoney

The rain is very thorough.
Going where I have to go
this summer afternoon
I march west beneath
my own umbrella while
you beneath a floppy hat
dash marvelously east.
Why I wear this uniform
explains why I ignore
the perfume
traipsing in your wake,
the ribbons dancing
in your hair, as I
beneath my own umbrella
keep on marching west.

Towns and Bedrooms, Whose Lights Never Fade | James Diaz - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Towns and Bedrooms, Whose Lights Never Fade | James Diaz

The time to have put away
certain memory foamed longings
may have already passed
years ago. Sitting in driveways
(always someone else’s)
and staring at the damage
of front lawns
made a mockery of by cell phone towers
in the distance
transforming simplicity
by stunting our dreams, lost roads
and small blessings- all that the photo eye
can take in.
As children we were never able
to make the necessary separations
between our experience of a place
and the actual inertness of the ground.
To be many worlds apart from the familiar
can send our loss back
to its competing history,
when was I here last?
And who was I then? And what now?
I notice there are fine lines
and burdens that cost more
than direct devastation,
yet still something very serious,
I think, is slipping out, a beyond-
where reach will become
no longer possible, for us.

Tonight... My Heart Is Naked! | PYG's Whisper - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Tonight… My Heart Is Naked! | PYG's Whisper

Tonight I will speak to your heart
Tonight I will sleep in your eyes
Tonight I will reveal all what I’ve never dared to say before
Tonight my heart is naked
Tonight there is no need to wear the mask of friendship
because tonight my heart is kneeling for you
my heart cries while singing “I love you.”
tonight my heart is naked
Free from all its vestments of fears and doubts
All this time spent away from you
All this time of loneliness without you all the harm I endured when I saw you in her arms
All the tears that have been shed for you
They are all meeting with my heart under your foot in this room
illuminated by the flames of the fireplace
We are your slaves who watch for your happiness
we are soldiers who fight for your peace
we are the sun shining to comfort you and my naked heart is ready to die for you…
Tonight my heart is naked and prays yours to cover it by your love
my heart is naked and feels so cold
but if you refuse to adopt it
my heart will remain naked until it dies frozen.
Tonight my heart is naked and it hopes to get drunk by your kisses
tonight my naked heart is telling you
I love you, so what should I do?
