Faces | William Swales - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

Faces | William Swales

Every time before going out
I meet my ego on the couch
We decide on which mask to wear
The one to charm or one to scare.
Its hard to tell which one is me
I play the role just like TV
I’ve hid so long I don’t know myself
There are so many on my shelf.
This one, that one, hey that’s new
A different mask a different you
Sometimes it’s hard to make a choice
I’ve lost my spirit and my voice.
If everyone just removed their mask
Would this be so hard to ask?
The world would be a better place
If everyone showed their real true face.

Classified: Top Secret | Stan Morrison

Truth has a way of upsetting the symmetry of history
of smashing the platitudes of grade school heroes
wiping away purity of purpose and clarity of choices
canceling the claims of the triumph of good over evil.
Truth can’t be edited to recapture innocence
it can’t be offset by arguments of “Yes, but…”
truth sets the course for new ideas
it opens pathways to compassion.
Truth sets a table in the presence of the enemies.

Catcalls | JD DeHart - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

Catcalls | JD DeHart

There is a current study
of the catcalls.
I have known about the voices
for years.
I have heard secret messages
screamed in cafeterias
and know about the downfall,
just slightly past the garden.
Some of us choose to be
walking weapons, gaping
maws of vituperation,
when we should wrap ourselves
in golden silence and rest
a while instead.

Streetlights | Stephen Webb- Rhyme Island - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

Streetlights | Stephen Webb- Rhyme Island

Stands a tall lamppost on the corner of my street
A friend to lean upon as I skip the odd heartbeat
Its streetlight flickers above me during the night
Sending me a coded message for me to sight
It lights the dark around me yet drowns that star
You know that one I look for to find you from afar
Vaguely I figure what you’re trying to clearly say
Love to reply in person if only we could find a way
My shadow reflects here of what you can expect
Can only show this in light of me for you to dissect
Seeing you smile as you look on me without blink
Thrills me no end inside as I know what you think
Streetlight now fades as light of day shines through
Happy times had again, “Yes, I know for you too!”
See you tomorrow night under this streetlight of love
Bringing us warmly together amongst stars above

An Intriguing Face | Deeya Bhattacharya - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

An Intriguing Face | Deeya Bhattacharya

For how many hundreds of centuries
have I not seen
the image of your face
nor searched for it.
The search for the face
by the dust-settled window panes
in the gold-rimmed orb
of the scorching sun went on
the flittering gaze
of a blue-bottle fly
from here to there.
The aroma in those
lost tragedies, over-arched
in rainbow-hued glass panes,
surprisingly short lived,
raw mangoes in oil
sharp and salty with a twang.
Those memories never rested
from toil – sauntering in
the brisk sun – adding to the
plight of an incessant thirst.

Reality Check | Judy Moskowitz - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

Reality Check | Judy Moskowitz

How did I get here
This sweet spot
A half beat away
From yesterday
Traveling through
The train of thought
To a family portrait
Charcoal charred
Suffering burns
Stealing my identity
Hitting the rails
Tampering with temptation
Breaking the fantasy
Doll house straight out of
Central casting
My reality check
How did I get here
Was it pure luck
Or divine intervention
Maybe an instinct saved me
From myself
Does it really matter
Sitting in my sweet spot
Still here

A Girl That I Loved | Joshua Chen - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

A Girl That I Loved | Joshua Chen

My body moves, Goes where I will
But wherever I am, My heart stays still
Each time I think of you, I’m filled with joy
If you haven’t entered my life, it’d be nothing more than a toy
At times I feel like I’m falling to the depths
Yet you’re always on my mind, Always in my head
Sometimes I fall so hard , My heart feels broken into two
But when I wake up, I feel alright
Because I’ll picture that I’m beside you.
All I know is that I love you so, So please do not ever let me go.
Life may be tough being with you,
But what would my life be without you.
I’ll never stop or let you go,
As I might be amongst the clouds by tomorrow.
I’d do anything to make you stay
Because life without you would be so grey.
My heart is pure towards you,
As pure as snow from an angels view.
You know these words are forever true,
And I’ll never want anyone else but you.
