The New Normal | Judy Moskowitz - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

The New Normal | Judy Moskowitz

when the music stopped
a cello lost its bow
the soprano swallowed her tongue
falling to the ground
one by one
two by two
the numbers grew exponentially
the sound of shattered hearts
like broken glass
on a cold floor
when the music stopped
you could hear
high decibels of fear
on faceless people
endless ring tones
blood stained shoes
another new normal
on the dance floor

Peacefulness | Poppy Taylor - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Peacefulness | Poppy Taylor

I envy – in
the way her lipstick contemplates
the contours of her mouth.
Always, for the first time
in unknown places, we danced.
Concealed minds, mingling
as the flowers
languish to impressions.
Never not for a moment – in the
time it takes to quieten
did we stoop
to raise the tempo.
Absent stumbles, persuading
dark ridges
that jade observer’s eyes
our favoured, parallel
minds
leaving misplaced
doubts, standing dormant in repose…

Dressed to Kill | Renee Drummond-Brown - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Dressed to Kill | Renee Drummond-Brown

We brush our teeth, knowing
the upside-down smile
blocks our speech.

We wash our face
hoping the sterile mask
gently stays in-its place.

We put our shoes-on,
knowing there’s no job
for “us” to trod.

We put our pants-on,
knowing we ain’t got
a leg to stand on.

We put on
our white tee-shirt(s),
knowing by the days end,
it’ll be filled with red bullet holes.

This is what I do know.
The body of armor
covers-up a Motherless-childs’
city potholes.

Casket sharp.
That’s what I know.
Best dress fo-sho.

Dedicated to: Good to be seen, not viewed. ‘Ya heard me?

Tender Serenade | G. S. Katz - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Tender Serenade | G. S. Katz

Winter passing into Spring
Trees finally blooming
Flowers and green abound
A Zen parade on every corner
The cynic in me doesn’t trust it
But the optimist lurking deep wants it
Your sly smile, you whimsical glow
Make the dawn laugh at my damaged psyche
Crossing over the boulevard
To a land of shadow and light
I’ve been this way before
But never so tender as today
