Trompe L'Esprit | Stan Morrison - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Trompe L’Esprit | Stan Morrison

what do psychopaths dream about
as REM sleep takes over their sleep
they have no conflicts on parade
they might dream about adoring fans
they’re never tired of being admired
howz about vengeance over enemies
that’s an insatiable lifetime pursuit
maybe about being a stable genius
charming sycophants into submission
that’s certainly a most noble ambition
for the rest, cursed with a moral compass
who respond to some code of ethics
and are deluded by the virtues of empathy
psychopathy is a TROMPE D’ESPRIT

Elephant Spirit Matriarch | Angel Edwards - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Elephant Spirit Matriarch | Angel Edwards

The elephant matriarch spirit
must look out for the good
of the entire herd

She will cast an even handed
kindly rulership
over all of the herd
with no favourites
the mother’s ruling is
The final word

However elephant children
take presedence
their well being
happiness
the essence of their
tenderness

. noble inflexible
. gentle terrible

. elephant spirit
the matriarch

A Candle in the Wind | Walid Abdallah - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

A Candle in the Wind | Walid Abdallah

I am a candle in the wind
dancing happily, I pretend

I am always deep under pressure
Suffering from stress with no measure

In silence I always burn
How to survive I should learn

I always live to end others’ night
They think it’s my duty and their right

Nobody cares how I feel
Or cools my wounds that never heal

No dream in my life comes true
Because of winds that always blow

I burn for others’ happiness
I only get their carelessness

I don’t know for how long I should burn
For those who never care or concern

I gradually vanish for their sake
they squeeze my hear and break

I really can’t stand for long
To a place I never belong

I lost the love of my life as a whole
In a world with no substitute at all

She couldn’t stand in the wind with me
Left me in the storm and decided to flee

She took all the sense of life away
And left me in the wind lost and astray

I am half alive and half dead
I can’t bear what she just said

She left and took my heart with her
She never knew how much I care

We become strangers again
As she couldn’t bear the pain

I am a candle in the wind
Only sad sighs I can send

Terror Barrier | Kimber Annie - A Poetry Website Featuring Poems by Contemporary Poets

Terror Barrier | Kimber Annie

what I know is this…
once you jump ship
you gotta swim
swim like there’s no tomorrow
swim like your life depends upon it… cause it does.
get your arms moving
get your legs moving
move.
move the deep that’s surrounding you
move the mountains that are touting you
move the voices that are doubting you
move.

move the liquid that’s caressing your flesh cause at this moment it isn’t your friend
you have to keep your ears above it and not let any of it in
move away as it screams
move away as it laughs
move away as it mocks you
move.

nothing about this swim resembles a refreshing dip on a warm summers day or a walk in the park
You’re in some other universe.
A universe where you have to hold your head up and you have to hold it up high. So high that your closer to the heavens then you’ve ever been.
Can’t think about food. Can’t think about hunger. Can’t think about the waves or about going under.
Feast on the airy sky. Drink it in. Drink in the colorful horizon. Drink in the sunset or sunrise. Drink it all in and swim its direction.
This is where you will find a sliver of life while you’re saving yours.
