Sleep Issues | G. S. Katz

Drank a pint of Smithwicks around 7pm
Split a plate of nachos with a friend
Drank 2 fingers of Wild Turkey 101 at 9:30pm
Ate Chicken and pasta around 10pm
Small arugula salad too
Hard some coconut sorbet at 10:30
Fell asleep watching political rhetoric at 11pm
Went to official bed

Dreamed about Mister Ed
The talking horse TV show
Told my wife about it at 3am
She was partially asleep
Had never heard of Mister Ed
She’s a UK product
Told me I was crazy

Tossed and turned after that
Took melatonin at 4am
Finally fell asleep at 6am
Up at 8
The moral of the story ?

Duh
Beats me

Eight Haikus Composed after Midnight | Harris Coverley - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

Eight Haikus Composed after Midnight | Harris Coverley

Drunks are still howling
Those lost bodies in the rain
Looking for a god

I hear the zoomings
Of those engines passing by
Zooming—Zumming—Zompf

The house still rumbles
Set’ling slowly on raw earth
The endless journey

I twist and I turn
But the stars are still too loud
To the window called

Rain mist coats the world
Sky opaque in Autumn’s night
But hear them I still

Other worlds’ suns cry
I can do nothing but wait
For the break of dawn

I slink back to bed
Close my eyes and close my mind
To the realm above

Drifting, away, off
I do remember you Void
You are like this night

Coming to a Head | JD DeHart - Read Poetry Online by Talented Contemporary Poets

Coming to a Head | JD DeHart

All the images and the sounds
of a long day of striving came
to an imminent head, waking
up no less than four times, burning
sour stomach, heart palpitating
image, all to be surrendered
for a more long-lasting peace,
remnants of political propaganda,
crossbow murder mysteries,
sad siren folk music.
