Across the tops of the bull reeds,
armour-plated in a variety
of neon, metallic colourings.
The rapid click and buzzing
of those double sets of wings,
hovering, side-sliding
with magnificently
controlled aerial manoeuvres.
It is the month of June
and the side of the Estuary
is alive with Curlew,
Little Egret and Oystercatcher.
There is a young family
picnicking half a field away
and Farm Cows with frolicking
youngsters freckle
the deep green hill behind them.
Whilst I have been stood
for a good half hour or more
upon this old rickety footbridge,
admiring the Dancing Dragonflies
all around me and my
contented and watchful smile.
