Spring Snow – A Poem by J.K. Durick

It’s ironic how we have learned to live with
a contradiction, like this, a misstep, blunder

a failure in the expected; how we adjust so
easily to whatever comes along. Snow today

isn’t news, rather a warning, or a reminder
that incidental things, like this, are beyond us

we can plan and manage, supervise and direct
we chart, arrange talking points and agendas

we schedule appointments and meetings, we
set the clock, our calendars, wake up early

then look out at our day, roads are treacherous
flights cancelled, schools closed, openings delayed

the best laid plans, etc. etc., but we get on, grab
the scraper, grab the shovel, grumble and go on.
