Trying Not to Rhyme | Daniel Klawitter

This time, I will resist the urge to rhyme words together.
I will purge myself of rhymes at the end of lines.
Rhyming slant is preferred if you just can’t help yourself.
Internal rhyme is less transgressive from an editor’s perspective.
But many still find light verse inherently and irredeemably defective.
Poems that aren’t serious won’t be taken seriously:
They will be killed, set on fire, exiled and impaled
As a warning to others… who tried not to rhyme and failed.
