Sins decorate the decades
leading up to now. Statues
have been raised that
should be taken down.
There is no pride in a past
filled with hatred. And our
words must change when
we teach the new ones,
the young ones, about
personhood and humanity.
To face the past means,
sometimes, we must change
our present.
